| Ladder 51 assists Fell
Township for an Overnight Structure Fire at the Scoreboard
Thursday June 19, 2008

Ladder 51 was dispatched
on the first alarm assignment for a confirmed bar fire on
Rittenhouse St in Simpson, Thursday night just before
midnight. Ladder 51 was the first arriving apparatus laying
a supply line from the hydrant at Morse and Rittenhouse and
taking up a position to protect the neighboring residence
which was close becoming invoolved. Ladder 51 spent the next
three hours operating its Aerial device as an elevated
master stream to ensure the fire was extinguished.

Thunderstorms Hammer the Area Making for a Busy Tuesday
Carbondale
Firefighters responded to twenty-six different calls for
assistance in the aftermath of a series of severe storms
that passed through the area Tuesday Night. |

Carbondale Firefighters
Run Dryer Fire Saturday Afternoon

Carbondale Firefighters were sent
out to possible dryer fire Saturday afternoon. Engine 51
arrived to find a fire in the dryer which was just beginning
to spread. Upon arrival Squad 51 received a report that
there could be a victim trapped in the structure and a team
was sent to search the structure. Thankfully, the search was
unfounded. Engine 51 knocked down the fire while Squad 51
set up the supply line as a precaution.
Units remained on scene for
approximately 45 minutes. |

Carbondale Firefighters Send Group to Scranton to Support
the IAFF Local 60 for the Ride for Robeson

Some of the
Carbondale Firefighters made the journey to Scranton for the
Ride for Robeson. Captain Robeson was killed in the line of
duty January 6, 2008 while operating in the bucket of
Scranton Truck 2 at a fire in Scranton's Hill Section. The
ride was set up to benefit the Robeson Family. Riders met at
the Electric City Harley Davidson and took part in the Poker
Run which ended at 2:00. |

Incidents Make for Busy Night for Carbondale Firefighters.
An MVA, Furnace Malfunction, and Structure Fire Occur

Carbondale Firefighters had a busy night on Thursday night.
Engine 51 was sent out on a motor vehicle accident on
Enterprise Dr. near Millennium Packaging at 11 pm. Engine 51
arrived and determined the incident to be in Area 61 and
Engine 61-4 was dispatched.
While Engine 51 was on scene of the accident awaiting Engine
61-4's arrival, a report was recieved of a possible
structure fire on Apple Ave. in Carbondale City. Squad 51
was the first unit to arrive to found a smoke condition in
the basement of the residence. Units located the problem,
secured the furnace, and made sure that residence was
ventilated before returning to service.
Later in the night, Engine 51 and Squad 51 were dispatched
for a possible structure fire on Hospital St in |

the City of Carbondale.
Engine 51 arrived to find a heavy smoke condition on
the second floor of the structure and requested the second
alarm. Ladder 51 along with firefighters from Jermyn,
Mayfield, Greenfield, Clifford and Childs responded as a
part of the second alarm.
Firefighters spent over an hour opening up the area around
the fire to ensure that there was no extension into an other
areas of the structure. A PSP Fire Marshal was called in to
investigate the incident.

Carbondale Firefighters Dispatched to Rubbish Fire Outside
of the Wallis Furniture Warehouse behind Royal Pizza on
Salem Ave May

Ladder and Engine 51 were
dispatched to a rubbish fire outside of Wallis Furniture at
8:20 pm Sunday Night. Ladder 51 arrived to find a chair on
fire near the structure. the chair was moved then
extinguished. Units cleared around 8:45 pm. PA State Police
Fire Marshalls were called to investigate. |

Carbondale Firefighters Travel to Philly for the 41st
Biannual PPFFA Convention
May 14-16, 2008
Carbondale
Firefighters Arthur, Chapman, and Fortuner spent Wednesday,
Thursday and Friday in Philadelphia at the PA Professional
Fire Fighters 41st Convention. Firefighters spent the three
days attending seminars and exchanging information with
other firefighters.
The
Philadelphia Fire Department made all of the Firefighters
from across the state feel at home and while in Philly
our three delegates visited three of the city's stations.
Engine 8/ Medic 21 on South St, Engine 20/ Ladder 23 in
China Town, and Engine 8/ Ladder 2 in the Olde City.

Chinatown
Firefighters also took in an opportunity to learn about
Philadelphia's Historic Independence Square and also a Night
at Citizens Bank Park to see the Philadelphia Phillies play
the Atlanta Braves.

Carbondale Firefighter Takes Aerial Practices Class in
Clifford
Sunday May 4, 2008
Carbondale Firefighter
Carl Schweinsburg took the PA State Fire Academy 16 hr.
Aerial Ladder Practices Course held at the Clifford Fire Co.
and taught by Larry Semenza.
The course focused on
Aerial Design, Spottiing/ Stabilization, Operations, and
Elevated Master Stream Operations. |

ANOTHER
BUSY DAY FOR CARBONDALE FIREFIGHTERS
Wednesday May 7,

Carbondale
Firefighters spent Wednesday Morning running Automatic Fire
Alarms at Osprey Ridge and the Downs at Carbondale. The
Engine and Ladder were sent to the Downs at around 9:30 for
the accidental alarm activation and later on to Osprey Ridge
for a system Malfunction. The Ladder made an afternoon trip
over to Osprey for an Investigation, then in the evening the
full box was dispatched for an alarm activation around 7 pm.

EARLY MORNING ARSON FIRE ON
WASHINGTON STREET
Monday April 28, 2008 4:15 am
Carbondale
Firefighters had an early start again on Monday with a fire at a
vacant house on Washington St. Engine, Squad, and Ladder 51 all
responded with Ladder 51 manned by off duty personnel. Firefighters
spent the early minutes protecting the nearby homes due to the heavy
volume of fire and the small distance between the houses. Simpson,
Greenfield, Whites Crossing, and Childs Engines were called in to
assist. The fire
was contained to the vacant home and units returned to service after
approximately 5 hours.
PA State Police
Investigated the incident and ruled the fire Arson. The
investigation is ongoing.

MORNING
FIRE DESTROYS HOUSE ON LINCOLN AVE
Wednesday April 2nd, 2008 4:15 am
Engine and Squad
51 were dispatched to a Structure Fire on Lincoln Ave above
Marian Community Hospital. Engine 51 reported heavy fire and
the request for a second alarm was transmitted bringing
Ladder 51,Jermyn's Ladder, Greenfield's Engine, Mayfield
Engine and Rescue, and Cottage Rescue. Prior to the arrival
of the second alarm companies crews had the fire under
control. Second Alarm Companies were relocated to Fire
Headquarters with the exception of Ladder 51 which was sent
to the scene. Fire Crews remained on scene for approximately
4 hours performing overhaul. A PA State Police Fire Marshall
was on scene in the morning to investigate the fire's
origin, which was ruled arson. |
